Placing Your First Order
This page contains step-by-step instructions on
how to place your first order.
Find what you want to buy.
If you already know what you want to buy, the
easiest way to find it is to type its name in any
of the search boxes around the website.
To get more information about a product, click its
name to see its product information page. There
you'll find:
image/s of the item
the item's availability
background information
reviews
the opportunity to buy the item from Marketplace
sellers
the buttons you need to add the item to your
Shopping Basket
Add it to your Shopping Basket.
The Shopping Basket is where you store items you
intend to buy. You can always delete items from
the Shopping Basket . When you find what you want
(or what you might want) click the "Add to
Shopping Basket" button on the item's product
information page.
If you can't see an "Add to Shopping
Basket" button, it's because the item is not
available. If there's a "New" or
"Used" link in the "More Buying
Choices" box, click it to access a list of
alternative sellers for the item.
When you've added everything you want to the
Shopping Basket, click "View Cart" in
the top right-hand corner of the page.
To start filling in the order form, click the
"Proceed to checkout" button.
You will now be directed through the Amazon
Checkout website.
The instructions below outline each ordering step.
Sign in
Enter your e-mail address, select "I'm a new
customer" and click the "Sign in"
button. The e-mail address you provide here will
be the only e-mail address we can use to
communicate with you about your order, so please
double-check it. You must use your own e-mail
address, even if you're buying something for
someone else.
Note: don't fill in the password field--you'll be
asked to provide a password later in the process.
Enter a delivery address
Tell us where you'd like us to send your order,
and let us know if any of the items are to be
gifts (if so, you'll be given a chance to order
giftwrap and add a gift note).
Select a delivery method and delivery option
Consider how quickly you'd like to receive your
order, and choose a delivery method. If the order
is for UK delivery, and it qualifies, you will be
able to select free Super Saver Delivery as your
delivery option. Super Saver Delivery is not the
default delivery method because the total delivery
time (from when you place your order to when it
arrives) for Super Saver Delivery is 2-4 days
longer than for First Class delivery. See also

If there's more than one item in your order,
you'll be given the following delivery options:
- Group my items into as few deliveries as
possible
- I want my items faster. Dispatch items as
they become available (at additional cost)
If you choose the first option, we'll show you the
minimum number of deliveries needed to complete
your order. If you choose the second option, we'll
dispatch items to you as they become available,
beginning with those already in stock. You'll be
charged for each separate delivery.
The delivery charge for your order will be
displayed on the order summary page just before
you submit your order.
Provide a password and method of payment
Choose a password for your account. We will not
provide the password for you. You'll be able to
use your e-mail address and password to make
changes to your order and account information any
time you like, so make sure you remember which
e-mail address and password you used.
Next, let us know how you want to pay for your
order. We accept Visa, Delta, Visa Electron,
MasterCard, Eurocard, American Express, Maestro,
Solo, cheques or postal orders (denominated in
Pounds Sterling) and Amazon UK gift certificates
as payment. All orders must be prepaid. If you're
paying with a credit or debit card, enter the
number without spaces or dashes.
Review and submit your order
Check the information you've provided and make
adjustments by clicking the "edit"
button next to the relevant information. When
you're ready, click the "Place Your
Order" button to submit your order. We'll
then send you a confirmation e-mail message. We'll
also send you an e-mail message when we dispatch
the order to you.
Tracking your order
After placing your order you can make changes to
it, using Your Account right up until we start to
process the order. You can also see the estimated
dispatch date (when we'll send the order to you)
and estimated delivery date (when it should arrive
at its destination).
